Misc 30 April 2007

Ray did 1:9:38 in the SCCU 25 last week.
Ann did 4:3:08 in the London Marathon - sounds fantastic to me, but apparently about 10 mins slower than she was aiming for....

Jake has entered the Farnham 10 on the H10/8 next Saturday (5th May). I've entered the Hillingdon 25 on the H25/2 on Sunday (6th) and John, Tony and I make up a team in the VTTA 10 on Monday morning (7th) on the H10/2.

I have also entered the Didcot Phoenix 25 (H25/17) on the 13th, rather than the nominated club event, the Norwood Paragon 25 on the G25/53. Jake mentioned possibly entering the Charlotteville 50 on the H50/8 that morning.

I am about to enter the High Wycombe 25 (H25/2) on the 20th May, and Stuart was asking for entry info for the Worthing Excelsior 25 on the same day (G25/53).

For the late May Bank Holiday weekend:
There's the Charlotteville 25 (H25/8) on the Saturday - early closing date of May 11th.
Jake might be entering the Hounslow 100 on the Sunday H100/88 as she can't make the SCCU 100 in July.

What's anyone else planning/contemplating?

Surrey League evening races

The Surrey Cycle Racing League evening races start next week.

This year there will be 5 separate series on offer for all categories.

New for 2007 is a Youth only series at Angmering Raceway. Angmering Raceway can be found off Water Lane just off the A280 in Angmering, West Sussex not far from the A27. Racing starts at 18:30 on Tuesday April 24th where there will be separate races for all youth categories subject to numbers. Racing will continue every Tuesday until August 24th.

Also new for 2007 is the Dunsfold Park-Atum 22 Series. Dunsfold Park can be found just off the A281 near Cranleigh in Surrey. Many riders will have ridden Dunsfold Park on a Sunday already, but this is the first time it has been used for an evening series. Dunsfold Park and Atum 22 are both sponsoring the series. Racing starts on April 24th and will run every Tuesday until August 14th. Times of start are 18:30 for youth riders and 19:00 for E/1/2/3/4 riders.

The agiskoviner.com Eelmore Series starts on May 2nd and will continue every Wednesday evening until August 29th with a break for one week when the Guildford Town Centre Races take place. Three races take place each week on this tight 1 mile circuit. The youths start first at 18:30. Elite, 1st and 2nd category riders go off at 19:00 closely followed by the 3rds and 4ths with the 2nd vets. Eelmore Driver Training Circuit is on the A323 between Fleet and Aldershot.

The traditional Thursday evening handicap races start on May 3rd at 19:15. These popular events will have a slightly reduced series of 11 events this year. These events are run on the road at various venues throughout Surrey and Sussex and are open to E/1/2/3/4 category riders.

One more new series for 2007 is the Mercedes-Benz World Series. There will be only 5 events in this series all taking place on Thursday evenings with the 1st event on May 31st. Racing for youths will start at 18:30 with racing for E/1/2/3/4 category riders starting at 19:00. Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands can be found near Weybridge in Surrey.

Latest on the new Highway Code

The new edition of the Highway Code is about to be published and many cyclists feel that the new wording is not altogether cycling friendly.

Here is the link to the version that will almost certainly be published now:
Highway_Code_Draft.pdf

Here is the response to the consultation on an earlier draft:
Response_to_Highway_Code_Consultation_report.pdf

The Cycling Plus forum has been discussing the matter here

And if you, too, are not happy perhaps you might like to sign this online petition to the Government, in the hope that it might make a difference.

April 14th/15th

A busy weekend for members:

On Saturday we have 15 riders (5 teams of 3) in the Antelope 3Up TTT based at Longwick, near Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.

13:33 Heather, Jen, Lisa
13:48 Jackie, Rachel, Chrystal
13:57 Ann, Jake, Florence
14:09 Grant, Ken, John
14:24 Andy, Joe, Simon

Already it looks like we are paying for not nominating reserves for any of the teams - Florence is unwell and unlikely to be riding, leaving the ladies B team without a rider (and therefore off the hook!!!!).

On Sunday there are only 3 entrants in the Redmon 25, so it will not be a club event:
08:37 Stuart
08:49 Grant
08:54 Ray

Meanwhile in the Maidenhead & District CC 15:
09:14 Lisa
09:24 John

and then there is the Archer Grand Prix based at Hazlemere in Buckinghamshire starts at 11am - more info at www.archergrandprix.com for the spectators.
